A half-million-dollar campaign against sexual misconduct at the University of Minnesota is ramping up this spring.
This week, faculty and staff started taking mandatory online training aimed at preventing harassment and assault. The U recently hired a marketing firm to design a public awareness campaign to roll out later in the year. It’s also recruiting for a staffer who will expand existing training for students, with a new focus on encouraging bystanders to intervene when they witness sexual misconduct.

After an exhibit prompted the University of Minnesota’s student body president to call for the renaming of Coffman Union, students are beginning to take action.
The Minnesota Student Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee is drafting a resolution, gathering signatures for a petition and planning to present the material at a forum in early March with a goal of renaming the central campus building.
Following advocacy from University of Minnesota student and employee groups, a top University committee will vote on a new parental leave policy draft early next month.
Governance committees at the University have pushed for parental leave reform in recent years, voicing concerns over potential inequities in current policy. If approved, any employees who work at least part-time would be eligible for six weeks of paid parental leave in the event of birth, adoption or surrogacy as soon as they begin working for the University.
Through a video series featuring Indian students and their stories, the Indian Student Association at the University of Minnesota launched a project last week to highlight lesser-known issues and to inform fellow students of their culture.
The project, called The Indian Perspective, is a series of videos allowing Indian students on campus to talk openly about issues they face and their cultural identities, as well as how certain topics are handled differently in the U.S. and India.
