UMN plans to formally recognize campus placement on Indigenous land

"Plans are underway for the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to release a land acknowledgement statement, which would recognize that the campus resides on Dakota homeland. 

The Twin Cities campus occupies land that Dakota people lived on for generations. Treaties with the U.S. government forced tribes to relocate, making way for Europeans to establish a town that would become Minneapolis in the mid-1800s."

Bell Museum to increase support for visitors with sensory challenges

"The Bell Museum is using a University of Minnesota micro-grant to increase support for visitors with autism and other sensory challenges. 

With funds from the Campus Climate Micro-Grant program,the Bell Museum will establish stations with sensory kits across the museum to improve access to exhibits and programs for visitors who are affected by overwhelming environments. The kits will include items such as weighted blankets, fidget toys, timers and sound-dampening headphones."

IDEA now accepting spring Faculty Driven funding proposals

The Institute for Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy (IDEA) is now accepting spring funding proposals for the Faculty Driven initiative. The program provides funding for faculty to develop programs that strengthen the University’s diverse community of scholars. The fall application deadline is March 30.
