We as sociologists are part of the society that we study. We use our ‘sociological imagination’ to delve deeper into multifaceted topics. In my own work, I attempt to counter the caricature of Muslims (radical versus moderate, or 'bad Muslim good Muslim') in our post-9/11 debates.
My most recent commentary, Where is my Islam? The Identity Crisis of 21st Century Muslims, published by CNN, underscores the diversity within the Islamic world and the local and global processes that are shaping and reshaping what it means to be a Muslim at the beginning of the 21st century.
