New academic freedom and free speech webpage

The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost added a webpage to its site, Academic Freedom and Free Speech at the University of Minnesota. The page provides a listing of the official policies and codes of conduct that affirm and address academic freedom and free speech protections and responsibilities at the University. Quotes from President Eric W. Kaler and Executive Vice President Provost Karen Hanson underscore the University's commitment to free speech and academic freedom.

The Bias Response and Referral Network (BRRN) has published its year-two report to the Twin Cities campus community. The report includes year-two highlights, information about incidents reported to the BRRN over the last year, and recommendations for the coming year. The report can be found here.

Call for Nominations for 2018 Lillian H. Williams Award

The Office for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (EOAA) invites nominees for the Lillian H. Williams Award. This annual award is named in honor of Lillian H. Williams, the founding director of EOAA.  This award was established in 1986 to recognize individuals and units within the University community who exemplify Ms. William’s spirit and commitment to equal opportunity and affirmative action.


President Kaler's statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's Travel Ban decision

Yesterday's closely split decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on the Travel Ban is of significant concern to the University. While the safety and security of our nation is paramount, we know that academic and cultural exchanges build trust, collaboration and discovery that actually strengthen our national security. We also count international students, faculty and staff as important members of our University community and state.
