Your voices mattered

President Kaler sent this message to all students, faculty and staff . . .

To the University Community,

I am pleased to report that the U.S. House and Senate have agreed to remove the graduate tax provision from any final federal tax reform bill. This is a victory for students here at the University of Minnesota and across the country.

Many of you raised your voice in opposition to this provision by contacting Minnesota's congressional delegation, passing resolutions, and speaking to the media. In fact, you helped generate more than 30,000 emails to members of Congress through our UMN Advocates program. Yes, your voices mattered.

Other provisions in the federal tax proposal may affect the University and our students and may lead to further discussion. But for now, thank you for your help in this effort and for your continued support for our graduate and professional students.
